Electricity from Suspension Travel
GenShock produces power on varying types of terrain. The plot at left shows suspension travel data of a Class-8 truck on a typical highway. Energy recovery provides additional on board electricity for the vehicle that ranges from tens of watts to several kilowatts depending on vehicle type and terrain.
Improved Handling and Ride Control
GenShock can be used as a semi-active or fully-active system. It can dynamically adjust damping characteristics instantaneously. Damping can be stiffened or relaxed depending on the weight and/or sensitivity of the load. Simple applications allow the suspension to change damping depending on the weight of the load. Advanced algorithms developed by Levant Power Corp. allow for real-time adjustments to create a smooth ride with better handling characteristics than conventional shock absorbers. At left, a plot demonstrates a 30% reduction in vehicle vibration (of a 40,000 lb bus) using the GenShock ASH™ ride control system.
Durable and Reliable
Reduced heat dissipation diminishes shock absorber wear, resulting in a system that lasts longer than conventional shock absorbers. GenShock has been proven in military testing, and is being built to heavy duty long life specifications. Accelerated system testing has been performed over several million cycles.
